The Course

This Melia golf course designed by esteemed Spanish architect Jose Ganchedo is a jewel in the center of Punta Cana. This is an inland golf course that uses strategically placed bunkers and trees to create a truly challenging layout.

The Cocotal club winds its way through a former coconut plantation and seems very harmonious with the natural landscape. The layout rolls through the valley’s mounds and rolling countryside. There is not a lot of water on this course, but it’s located well so that it forces players to make decisions and keeps them thinking throughout their round

Fairways at Cocotal Golf Course

The fairways are wide and generous, allowing golfers to stand confidently on the tee and swing for the fences. An errant shot may find one of “Pepe’s” bunkers but is unlikely to result in a lost ball. There is a nice strip of primary rough that is very easy to hit out of making it possible to still stick it tight even if you miss the fairway.

Outside the primary cut of rough you will find strategically placed trees and sand waste-bunkers that will severely hinder a player’s ability to reach the green in regulation.

The Greens at Cocotal Golf

The greens are definitely the standout component of golf Cocotal. Most of the greens are elevated and very quick making approach shots very tricky. Running shots onto the green is difficult and approaches need to be kept high to avoid skirting off the back. Golfers who can spin the ball are definitely rewarded on these fast and smooth-rolling greens.

Facilities

There is a clubhouse and a restaurant at Cocotal. A beverage cart makes its way around the course, but generally not quickly enough to keep players replenished with bottled water. Bringing several bottles of water in your golf bag is a good idea.
